A Refreshing Day Out along the Holy River Ganges

During Christmas vacation, we planned to go on a long drive along the hilly terrain connecting Roorkee and Badarinath with literally no predefined destination in our minds. We just wanted to get sunk and rejuvenate ourselves simply by enjoying the natural scenic beauty while driving through, with the holy river Ganges on one side and the sacred Himalayan ranges on the other side.

After driving for about two hours from Roorkee, we reached a small town named, Shivpuri, a place well known for river rafting, camping and other adventurous sports. As we were passing by the town, a beautiful view of camp site along the streams of Ganges stunned us. We parked our car along the road and trekked down to see the view. The breathtaking views of the place at the Himalayan foothills across the holy river Ganges are so mesmerizing and inviting. The cool and crisp air around the place is exceptionally refreshing and pure. Being someone who seeks for serenity and solitude, we immediately fell in love with the place and the picturesque location, away from the noise of the city and crowds, has locked our feet and we decided to spend the rest of the day there only. Due to off season, there were no one staying in the camp site but few people have been coming with rafts for rafting in the Ganges. We postponed our rafting plan for summers due to extreme cold waters.

The beauty and serenity of the place can not be described in words but it is to be experienced and felt from deep with in the heart. The gurgling emerald green waters frothing and crashing on rocks, the lush green mountains around and pristine sand, that's all you need to have your own personal heaven. It is an ideal place to get soaked in the nature’s beauty and rejuvenate yourself away from city noises and pollution, by simply lazing around on the silvery beaches of Ganges, watching the gurgling streams of the river and sailing rafts, having quality time with family and friends.

Although it’s been more than two months since we visited the place, the breathtaking views, the crispness in the cool air are still fresh in our minds. It is a perfect picnic spot to have a family day out and spend some quality time. For visitors who are coming from long distances, plenty of options are available there for camping with all modern amenities.
